This is a recap of the major miles and points news stories from this past week.
Credit Card Bonus Changes
This week, several credit cards have increased or decreased bonuses. Check out the Hot Deals section above for the latest information.
As expected, the Amex Hilton cards now have lower bonuses. Congrats to everyone who got in on the deals!
The Barclaycard AAdvantage Aviator Red World Elite Mastercard now has an increased bonus of 50,000 miles (was previously 40,000 miles). Although this card has a $95 annual fee, you only have to make one purchase and pay the fee in order to get the bonus miles. See my post from yesterday.
All three Chase Southwest Rapid Rewards cards (Premier, Plus and Business) now have bonuses of 60,000 points. If you are below 5/24 and live near a city serviced by Southwest, these cards can be very useful. Just getting two of these cards would earn you a companion pass. These cards pay us commission if you apply through our site. (h/t Doctor of Credit)
Citi Hilton Cards Going Away End of This Year
Via Mommy Points, the two Citi Hilton credit cards will be going away at the end of this year. Both Citi and Amex currently have Hilton cards, but Amex will have the only co-branded cards starting in 2018.
My husband and I both had the Citi Hilton Reserve card a few years ago that comes with two free weekend nights after spending $2500 in the first four months. It has a $95 annual fee. We used two of the nights to stay in DoubleTree Suites Times Square in NYC, and the other two free nights to stay at Hilton Hawaiian Village on Oahu. We definitely got a good value out of our weekend certificates.
Per Citi rules, you can’t get the bonus again on these cards if you have opened or closed either Citi Hilton card within the past 24 months.
Will Citi offer higher sign-up bonuses for its two Hilton cards before they go away? I hope so!
New Amex Offers
If you have an Amex card, check your offers in your online account (h/t Running With Miles). Texas de Brazil and Omni hotels might be appealing to some readers. I am hoping to try out an Omni location soon.
Disney News (you know I can’t resist)
Last weekend was a big weekend for both Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World in Florida.
Disneyland kicked off its Summer of Heroes with a new Guardians of the Galaxy ride and Marvel character appearances. Check out this guide to the rides, entertainment and super-hero food. I can’t wait to go there next month!
On the opposite coast, Disney World wowed visitors with the new Pandora: World of Avatar. See this article for more information. Looks like I need to plan a visit to Disney World soon!
For an interesting read, check out this story about a runaway bride who ran to Disney World.
Have a great weekend!
