Over the past month I’ve been traveling more frequently than normal due to a family situation. My time at airports and hotels reminded me of some travel pet peeves I have. I know things are different due to the pandemic, but these pet peeves of mine have been happening long before that.
Cutting the Line Deboarding the Plane
This is by far my biggest pet peeve. Unless someone has an urgent connection, passengers should deboard the plane by row. But it never fails that there are some people who jump up and push their way to the exit door first. This even happens when it’s the last flight of the evening and there are no more connections. So rude.
Crowding at the Gate
When it gets close to boarding time, some people stand up and crowd around the gate. Nevermind that there are 9 boarding groups that have to get through. Because I have the Barclaycard Aviator AAdvantage business card, I am assigned to Group 5. It never fails that I have to make my way through a crowd of people hovering right in front of the jetway blocking the entrance.
I can understand wanting to be near the gate so that you can board as soon as your group is called. But back up a little, please, so people can get through!
Elevator Etiquette
It bothers me when people try to get on an elevator before people have had a chance to get off. I realize if you’re not used to using elevators, this may not be intuitive.
My kids still have a hard time waiting to jump on, and I frequently have to remind them to step back. But grown adults should know better.
Thankfully, travel is mostly great, so I just try to roll with the annoyances.
Do you share any of these pet peeves? What other travel pet peeves do you have?

There’s tons more possibilities but I like your list.

Regarding cutting the line while deplaning, while it is annoying, I still try to give them the benefit of the doubt. Making a connection isn’t the only reason. Maybe the flight was delayed and they need to be somewhere. Maybe they have a sick family member. Maybe they have an important meeting. Could be any number of reasons. It happens so infrequently that I figure on the rare instances where it does happen, it must be important.

@Aaron That’s a great way to look at it! I should do that more often. 🙂 I’m a little skeptical though when the flight is on time or I see those same people on the Disney bus. But you’re right, some probably do have a good reason.

I totally agree with all three of these! I’m sure we could have a huge list of everyone’s annoyances! 🙂

I wholeheartedly agree. Nothing worst than those who pop up like a jack in the box the moment they hear the first ding! Ugh!
