About a month ago, I wrote a post about how we are trying to send my husband and son to the Laver Cup in Boston this year. A local tennis coach got some pre-sale tickets for the 3-day event, but the tickets were $1000-$2000 EACH. Ouch!
Several readers commented on the post and sent me emails with tips for getting cheaper tickets and recommendations of other less expensive tennis events we should consider instead. I’m very grateful for all of your advice! You can read my original post here.
We Got Tickets to the Laver Cup!
We joined the mailing list on the Laver Cup website a few months ago, and this morning we received an email with a special code for a pre-sale. My husband and I wondered if the tickets would be just as expensive as the ones that the tennis travel groups were selling.
We had to wait in the virtual queue for about 15 minutes before our turn popped up. Thankfully, we saw the lower-priced seats that were advertised on the Laver Cup website! We grabbed two balcony seats that were the next tier of pricing, but were still well below the other pre-sale pricing mentioned above. Woohoo!
We’ve already got reservations at a nearby hotel with IHG certs, and we plan to use points for the flights. So, for his 16th birthday, my son will be getting a trip to Boston to see his favorite tennis player (Federer) and other players. Miles and points are making this trip affordable!
Lessons Learned
My family doesn’t buy a lot of big event tickets, so this process was somewhat new for us. I learned that we should have a budget and stick to it. We should also have alternative events in mind that would fit into that budget. And, we will always wait for the “official” tickets to go on sale before eliminating an event due to the high cost of tickets.
I just hope the coronavirus scare is behind us when this event rolls around!
