Last year around this same time, I wrote a post with gift ideas for families who love to travel. As a travel lover (or hodophile as I recently learned) myself, I would love to receive airline or hotel gift cards, museum memberships or restaurant gift cards to enhance our trips or allow us to take short additional trips as a family. However, some people prefer to give more tangible things as opposed to gift cards or “experience” gifts.

With that in mind, here are 10 tangible gift ideas for hodophiles that are perfect for any gift giving occasion.

Neck Pillow

Neck pillows are a life saver on both long flights and long car rides. Before our trip to Hawaii earlier this year, my husband and I purchased these BCOZZY neck pillows.

I like how this pillow supports the front of my neck, as my head tends to fall forward when I start to drift asleep.

Noise Cancelling Headphones

My husband loves his noise cancelling headphones for flights. They drown out the voices of other passengers and allow you to more clearly hear the in-flight movie. We plan to get some for all of us before our long flight to Australia next summer.

These come in a wide variety of price ranges. Check out these reasonably-priced Cowin E7 Noise Cancelling Headphones.

Luggage

You can never have too much luggage. It takes a beating on each trip, so frequent travelers need new luggage every few years. I’m currently obsessed with this Minnie Mouse luggage by American Tourister

Luggage Scale

My husband has wanted to get a portable luggage scale for years, and we finally got one this year. Why? We like to travel with just a few suitcases for my entire family, but we stuff them to the gills. Our suitcases usually weight close to the 50-pound limit that most airlines impose. When we pack to return home, it’s nice to know ahead of time if we have our weight balanced appropriately between our suitcases so that we don’t have to move stuff around at the check-in counter. This Etekcity Digital Hanging Luggage Scale is inexpensive and gets great reviews.

Collapsible Water Bottle

I don’t have one of these yet, but they would be really handy for trips to Disney World. This HYDAWAY Collapsible Pocket-Sized Travel Water Bottle collapses to just one inch!

GoPro Waterproof Camera

I’ve owned several waterproof cameras over the years, but none have been as durable and reliable as the GoPro. The GoPro HERO5 takes great action photos and videos outside and under water.

Scratch-off Map

I want this! There is something satisfying about scratching off a lottery ticket. I can imagine how cool it would be to scratch off places after visiting them! Check out this Scratch-off World Map

There is also a scratch-off USA map and National Park map.

Portable Charger

This portable charger has saved us on long airport days and during visits to Disney parks. Sometimes, I just take too many videos and my phone battery wears down quickly. Or, my kids wear down the iPad battery by playing games. This Anker PowerCore portable charger is lightweight and portable.

Travel Journal

For some things, I prefer to ditch my electronics and use old-fashioned pen and paper. On most trips, I keep a travel journal so that I can remember the details to write a daily trip report. (like my Alaska Cruise report). Check out this MALEDON travel journal

Travel Inspiration Books

While traveling is awesome, sometimes dreaming about traveling is even more fulfilling. I must spend half my days researching trips I may never take. For dreamers like me, consider getting National Geographic Destinations of a Lifetime.

  1. Nice suggestions Nancy. I have bought a few American Tourister carryon spinner luggage as well as ebags packing cubes as gifts and everyone loves them. I have had a luggage scale in my amazon cart forever and for some reason I never buy it.
