This is a brief news recap from last week. For faster updates, follow Miles For Family on Twitter or check the feed on the right side of the blog.
1)This one is super exciting to me as I shop at Walmart on a regular basis. So, it will be an easy way to get some extra points. I’m referring, of course, to 5% bonus category on your Chase Freedom for October-December, which includes Walmart and department stores. I don’t really care about the latter. Does anyone even shop at department stores anymore? I thought Amazon put all of them out of business. Anyway, activate your 5% cash back on Freedom here
2) As I’ve mentioned on Wednesday, there is currently a working direct link for Citi Thank You Premier card. I wouldn’t delay applying if you are thinking about pulling the trigger. As always, you may want to prioritize other offers, depending on your plans.
3) Hotel promotions update by LoyaltyLobby. This is a very helpful resource that lists the ongoing promotions in all major hotel programs. Definitely check that page first before making a paid reservation. If you are going to spend cash, might as well pick up some rewards in the process.
It’s an excellent deal, but only if you can handle minimum spending requirements. Keep in mind, doing manufactures spending is not advised when it comes to all Amex cards. Also, you are only eligible to receive the bonus if you’ve never had this product before. Read my post on why SPG points are so valuable, plus “sweet spot” redemptions for family.
5) Our family glamping trip, (plus 5 ways you can save on an RV rental) by ClubThrifty. This is something I really want to try one of these days. You may also want to check out my post Using Cruise America to “travel hack” camping
6) Family-friendly Maui hotels by TravelingMom. Great post, listing some points and non-points options. Back when we visited Maui in 2002, my husband and I stayed in a tiny apartment in someone’s backyard. And loved it! That said, if we were to go back with kids, we would probably try to find a resort that has family-friendly amenities. One non-negotiable is a pool, and the more elaborate, the better. My kids actually like swimming in the pool more than swimming in the ocean. Crazy.
Blast from the past, aka our humble abode in Maui
